Victor Okoronkwo is the Group Managing Director of Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company Ltd (“Aiteo”). Aiteo is the operator of the joint venture with the Nigeria National Oil Company - Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC). The joint venture is the leading indigenous onshore producer in Nigeria with over 100, 000 barrels of oil equivalent production per day.
Victor graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in Surveying Engineering, holds an MBA from the USA and several other international professional and leadership certificates. He started his carrier with Seismograph Service Limited in 1984 and joined Shell in 1991. He worked in Shell for 23 years and held several management and leadership positions locally and internationally, spanning upstream, downstream and power generation. Victor was pioneer Asset Manager for the Integrated Afam (640 CCGT) Power Plant and Okoloma 240MMscf/d Gas plant that contributes over 14% of Nigeria grid connected electricity. Victor ultimately rose to the position of GM Gas Shell in Sub Saharan African from which position, he took an early retirement from Shell in 2014 and joined Aiteo as Senior Vice President.
In the GM role, he was responsible for the commercialization of ca. 3.5Bcf/d of natural gas through the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG), ca. 350-500MMscf/d into the Nigerian Domestic market and amongst others also provided key commercial advice on Shell divestment of oil and gas assets (ca. $6bln) in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Victor led the team that negotiated the first Gas to Power Partial Risk Guarantee (PRG) with the World Bank in Nigeria.
With a passion for fostering and enabling indigenous participation, Victor led from the trenches in ensuring seamless transition of Aiteo’s $2.5Bln Asset acquisition - the single biggest deal in Nigeria at the time. Aiteo has since grown into recognition as foremost indigenous oil producing company in Nigeria. In April 2019, Victor was appointed the Group Managing Director of Aiteo. In this position he oversees and provides leadership in the management of 920 Sq. Km of acreage with over 2Billion barrels of oil, 4Trillion Cubic Feet of natural gas reserves and operations of a key strategic national oil pipeline – Nembe Creek Trunk Line (“NCTL”), which is 117km by 36” line with design capacity of 600,000 barrels of oil per day.
Victor played a key role in the formulation and implementation of the Nigeria Gas Master Plan and remains industry thought leader to date. Victor played major roles in the formulation and implementation of the Nigeria Gas Master Plan leading the industry team working with the government to design both the commercial framework and infrastructure blueprint. Victor served on the steering committee of the West Niger Delta Energy City at Ogidigben, He served both as board member and shareholder representative on the board of the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria. He continues to hold thought leadership position within the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and well respected by his peers. Victor is currently 1st National Vice-President of the Nigerian Gas Association, Executive Committee member of the Indigenous Petroleum Producers Group (“IPPG”), Executive Committee Member of the Oil Producers Trade Section (“OPTS”) of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries (“LCCI”) and currently serves on the board of IS45 Oil Field Services Geneva, Switzerland.
Victor is a Licensed Surveyor by the Surveyors Registration Council of Nigeria. He is an Ontario Licensed Surveyor and Ontario Land Information Professional in Canada. Victor is a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and has received several professional awards including the prestigious USAfrica Award for excellence in Oil and Gas. Victor has written and presented several industry papers on thought leadership.
