Dr. Jetelina is a world-renowned scientific communicator and the founder and author of Your Local Epidemiologist, a newsletter that “translates” public health research and events to the community and has reached over 160 million people in 132 countries. Dr. Jetelina was awarded two national awards for her newsletter: a medal of honor from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Emergency Management and Medical Operations Field Operations and Response and the Public Health Practice Award from the American Public Health Association.

Dr. Katelyn Jetelina is a data scientist, violence epidemiologist, and educator. For the past 10 years, she has conducted research with vulnerable populations exposed to violence, like victims of child abuse, human trafficking, intimate partner violence, gun violence, and police officers. As a part of her research portfolio, she has developed interventions using smart and personal technology and analyzed “big data” from health systems. This work has resulted in more than 70 peer reviewed articles and has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Justice, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and numerous non-profit organizations.

Dr. Jetelina has worked at the World Health Organization, University of Texas Health Science Center as a faculty member in epidemiology, and senior scientific advisor to several jurisdictions across the nation. She received her Master’s in Public Health and PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Public Health. She resides in Dallas with her husband and two little girls.
